Coon Rapids/Andover American Little League

Divisions

Coon Rapids Andover American Little League has 6 divisions of play for local boys and girls. Starting with T-Ball at age 4 through age 12, your child will learn the game of baseball in a safe and supportive atmosphere.

As your child gets older and progresses through each division, you will see them grow and develop their baseball skills, sportsmanship, competitiveness, and character.

We pride ourselves in preparing CRALL players to move on to High School level of play. Let summers at Sand Creek Park be a permanent memory your child carries for a lifetime.

Your player’s league age is determined by the age of the child on August 31 of the current year.

T-BALL (4 - 5 years old)

The T-Ball Division is for 4 & 5 year old players.

It is a non-competitive league with no scores or standings - Just FUN!!

The goals are to learn about basic baseball skills and to enjoy team play. This introduction is a great start to Little League!

Each team will generally play 1 weeknight game per week, held on random nights throughout the season, and 2-3 Saturday games (Opening Day and Player Appreciation Day). Each meeting will be one hour; the first portion will be used for practice and the rest will be game time.

At their own discretion, the coaches will start to pitch underhand to the batters as the season progresses.

The season will conclude near the end of June, with the final game being played on the Majors field followed by an award ceremony. Everyone will receive a participation medal.

ROOKIE (5 - 6 years old)

The Rookie Division is for 5 & 6 year olds who have played one year of T-Ball.

Advanced 6 year olds who have completed one year in the Rookie division may move up to the “A” Division.

The Rookie division is geared toward younger players with some baseball experience. In this league, players will be introduced to fielding and base running awareness, and will get additional practice hitting a moving ball.

Each team will generally play 1 weeknight game per week, held on random nights throughout the season, and 2-3 Saturday games (Opening Day and Player Appreciation Day). Scheduled meeting times will be games only and coaches may schedule additional practices.

While score will not be kept during the games, the fielding team will have the opportunity to get the batter or base runners “out” by normal fielding rules, teaching players to recognize where the appropriate play is made. Batters will typically hit a moving ball thrown a short distance by the coach, but a tee will be available if needed to speed along the game.

The season will conclude near the end of June, with the final game being played on the Majors field followed by an award ceremony. Everyone will receive a participation medal.

A-BALL (6 - 8 years old)

The “A” Division is for 6, 7 & 8 year old players, some of whom are experiencing organized baseball for the first time.

Advanced 8 year olds who have completed at least one year in the “A” division should move up to the ”AA” Division.
NOTE: 8 year olds who play in the A Division will not be allowed to skip the AA Division the following year and try out for the Minors Division.

Advanced 7 year olds who have completed one year in the “A” division may move up to the ”AA” Division with league approval.

The “A” division is a "coach pitch" league with the purpose of providing a fun atmosphere to experience some competitive play, along with the necessary instruction for each player to continue developing their individual skills. This division provides equal playing time for all players, as well as the opportunity to play different positions in the field.

Everyone is in the batting lineup and the game is played with regular baseball rules with some modifications. Although the score is kept during the game, league standings are not kept.

There are usually 2 games per week, along with 1 or more practices.  The "A" division will play on most Saturday's throughout the season.

The regular season will end mid June with each player receiving a participation award. All teams will compete in a double elimination end of season tournament with trophies being awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.  This tournament will be completed before the July 4th weekend.

Advanced 9 year olds can try out for Minors and will be placed in “AA” if not selected to play in the Minors division. The “AA” division has been designed to help the players adjust to "live" pitching. Emphasis is placed on teaching the fundamental skills of baseball and teamwork.

All games will be played with everyone in the batting lineup and no player will sit for more than 2 innings per game
